Of course the beach is the biggest attraction of Egmond aan Zee. Not without reason, because the beach is one of the cleanest in Europe. Egmond has been allowed to carry the Blue Flag for years. Do you prefer a quiet spot by the sea? Then take a bike or walk to the beach of Egmond Binnen. But there is more in the area.
There is a beautiful dune area around Egmond, the Noordhollands Duinreservaat, with an extensive network of walking and cycling paths. Discover the area with deciduous and coniferous forests, beautifully overgrown dunes, hidden lakes and heather vegetation. Be surprised by the great diversity of plants and animals. For a visit to the dune area, an access card is required, which you can buy at a dune ticket machine.
More inland you will find a wide variety of landscapes. Surrounding forests and polders are waiting to be discovered. In the spring you can visit the bulb fields around Egmond. Large fields of flowers color the surroundings.

City and Region
Egmond aan Zee is a lively seaside resort. In addition to the beach, there is an extensive range of activities here. The range of shops is also very varied and is supplemented weekly in the summer period by the fair on Wednesday evening. There are plenty of options for food and drink lovers. That Egmond aan Zee was once a fishing village is reflected in the menus of the many restaurants in the village.
In Egmond Binnen you will find the Abbey of St. Adelbert, this abbey has a very turbulent history. After its foundation in the tenth century, this institute has been a leader in the area in the social and religious field. The original buildings were destroyed during the Eighty Years’ War. At the beginning of the last century, a reconstruction took place and after a silence of centuries, monastic life in Egmond has once again started. The complex is well worth a visit, in addition to the religious part you can visit the abbey orchard, butterfly garden and living earth project. In the monastery shop you will find handmade candles, abbey cheese and abbey beer, which is brewed with lime blossom from the abbey garden.
If you are looking for history, you can go to Egmond aan den Hoef. Here you will find the remains of the castle on the hoof, once a residence of the Count of Egmond.
Active
The area around apartment De Vuurtoren is ideal for an active holiday. The sea is ideal for golf and kite surfing. When the water starts to warm up and the temperatures rise, you will find plenty of surfers here.
Is running more your thing and do you like a challenge? In January, the Egmond Half Marathon takes place here, which is one of the toughest in the Netherlands. During this event there is a good atmosphere in the seaside resort and the varied route leads along the North Sea beach and through the North Holland Dune Reserve. Fourteen days later it is the turn of the walkers during the walking marathon. You can choose from different distances.
